The short answer

Useful answers, local options and the details to check.

Should I bag everything before you arrive?

Not necessarily. Bag small loose items safely where practical, but do not mix restricted materials or hide the contents. Ask what preparation suits your particular load.

2. Make a room-by-room inventory

List furniture, appliances, bags and unusual items. Photograph each room from a wide angle and take close-ups of specialist or heavy pieces. Include cupboards only if their contents are part of the clearance.

3. Check access and authority

Arrange entry with the keyholder and ensure the person booking can authorise removal. Describe floor levels, lifts, stairs and safe parking. Mention any shared-building restrictions.

4. Agree the scope and the finish

Confirm the quote, accepted items and collection date. Ask about dismantling and whether any tasks are excluded. Clearance does not automatically include professional cleaning, repairs or valuation.
